Faculty Position in Law
Qatar Foundation in strategic partnership with Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law has established the first Juris Doctor (J.D.), three-year, post-graduate law degree program in the MENA region - Hamad Bin Khalifa University, College of Law and Public Policy (HBKU-CLPP). Positioned at an international crossroad, Qatar and the MENA region requires leaders who can manage multi-faceted relationships that span different legal systems and demand multi-disciplinary skills. HBKU-CLPP addresses this need by training students to understand the diverse legal systems that inform Qatari law and govern the complex events and transactions in which Qatar and its global partners engage. Launched in 2015 the program is in its third year.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: In preparation for its fourth year of operations, HBKU-CLPP is looking for faculty for the academic year 2018-2019. A minimum of a J.D. or equivalent qualification in civil law or common law jurisdiction is required, Ph.D. or S.J.D preferred. Candidates should have a superior academic record, with demonstrable evidence of, or a strong potential for, excellence and innovation in teaching, scholarly research and service.
HBKU-CLPP invites applications and nominations for faculty and is especially interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas; Legal topic: civil procedure; commercial and bankruptcy; dispute resolution (trial advocacy, arbitration and mediation); contracts; criminal (law and procedure); intellectual property; legal writing (with a special emphasis on advocacy).
Relocation to, or current residency in Qatar is required for full-time faculty candidates. For visiting faculty, semester-long engagements are preferred, but short-term engagements may be considered. Experience teaching and living in the MENA region is a benefit, but not required.
