The Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary invites applications for a continuing appointment in Risk Management and Insurance at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Applications are encouraged in any of the wide range of topics related to risk management, insurance, employee benefits, financial planning, and estate planning, The appointment will commence July 1, 2016, or at a mutually agreeable date.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have:
- A doctorate in insurance, finance, economics or other closely related field;
- A strong record of research that includes risk management and insurance, with publications in high-impact refereed journals and grantsmanship commensurate with the professorial rank being sought. Preference will be given to candidates with publications in high impact journals (based on Academic Journal Guide 4*);
- A demonstrated capability in graduate- and undergraduate-level teaching and willingness to undertake graduate student supervision;
- A minimum of three years of experience in an academic position focused in the area related to insurance, risk management and/or personal finance;
- A demonstrated willingness to provide service to the university and to interact with the business community in insurance, risk management, and/or personal finance.
Key requirements of the positions include:
- research and knowledge dissemination;
- securing research funding;
- teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels;
- working with colleagues on interdisciplinary research initiatives, programme development and implementation; and,
- engagement with local, national and international professional and other communities.
Research support is offered to all new hires. Commensurate with their qualifications and experience, applicants may be considered for appointment with tenure and/or simultaneous appointment as a Future Fund Professor or the Chair in Insurance and Risk Management. Any such additional appointment would be accompanied with a higher level of research support that could include teaching release.
Applicants at the assistant professor (tenure-track) rank will demonstrate the desire and potential to be a teacher in a professional faculty; provide evidence of past and/or potential excellence in scholarship.
Applicants at the associate professor (with tenure) rank must possess a doctoral degree or equivalent in insurance, finance, economics or other closely related field. They must provide evidence of past teaching effectiveness in a professional faculty; provide evidence that the individual is a sound scholar and that they are like to continue to make meaningful contributions to their field.
Applicants at the full professor l(with tenure) rank must provide evidence of a well-established funded research program, outstanding academic publication record, evidence of a fully established, demonstrated ability to lead research teams, outstanding teaching and graduate supervision record, and evidence of academic service and/or leadership.
