Industrial-Alliance Chair in Insurance and Financial Services

The Faculte des sciences de l'administration (FSA) at Laval University is a leading business school accredited by both AACSB and EQUIS. It's Department of Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate aims to recruit a professor for the position of the Industrial-Alliance Chair in Insurance and Financial Services.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Quebec City is known for its insurance industry, with eleven insurance companies having headquarters in the city. Laval was the first Canadian University to establish an endowed Chair in insurance in 1975 following a generous donation from Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc. With an endowment of approximately $2.2 million CDN dollars, the Chair is one of the most important in the country in the insurance sector.

The mission of the Industrial-Alliance Chair in Insurance and Financial Services is to conduct academic research, contribute to the teaching and the continuing activities related to the financial services industry, in particular, the life and non-life insurance sectors. Recently, the chair holder's activities have focused on the supply of financial products and services (including activities related to the management of the sales force) as well as the financial management of insurance companies.

It is expected that the new Chair holder will (1) actively support the teaching of risk management and insurance courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, (2) develop leading-edge research activities with the support of the Chair's steering and scientific committees, (3) publish research papers in highly-rated journals, and (4) manage the direct relationships with the Chair's sponsor and other major partners, which could also lead to very fruitful research collaborations.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements of potential candidates include:
- Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field of specialization (e.g, risk management and insurance, actuarial sciences, finance, economics);
- Have a track record of relevant publications;
- Have a good knowledge of the financial services industry and of its insurance sector;
- Ability to teach in French.
