Assistant Professor, Food Systems Economics

The Department of Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota invites applications for an Assistant Professor, Food Systems Economics. This is a 9-month, 100% time, 50% research and 50% teaching, tenure track appointment.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: The Department of Applied Economics offers highly ranked programs of study at the undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. levels. Food System Economics is an area where there are clear and important research questions. This position represents an investment in the University of Minnesota's expanding focus on food and related agricultural issues. The department is located in a diverse metropolitan area, home to a large agribusiness and food industry and in the center of a diverse agricultural production region. This proximity offers unique opportunities to address management, business and policy issues throughout the food supply chain.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This position reflects interest from students, both undergraduate and graduate, from within our programs, and from across the Twin Cities campus. This position includes responsibilities for teaching, research, and leadership related to Food System Economics. Possible areas of specialization within Food System Economics include, but are not limited to: 1) industrial organization of the food system, 2) economics of production and management in diverse agricultural and food systems, 3) domestic and/or international food and agricultural policy, 4) risk analysis and management in complex food systems, 5) economics of food systems and human health interactions. Inquiries from outstanding scholars interested in economic issues related to agriculture and food would also be welcomed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Essential qualification: Ph.D. in applied economics, agricultural economics, economics, or a closely related field by date of appointment. The full position description and application procedure are available at
