Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia - Payment Cards Center
The center is seeking to fill two positions with candidates who have extensive expertise in consumer credit and payments and who are interested in conducting applied analysis and research on topics relevant to these markets. Qualified candidates may come from industry, consulting, academic, nonprofit, or government backgrounds.
Industry Specialist and Special Advisor
Applicants must be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or hold a permanent resident/green card with the intent to become a U.S. citizen.
JOB DESCRIPTION: A successful industry specialist or special advisor combines knowledge of the subject matter, an ability to communicate effectively - both orally and in writing, strong analytic skills, and a desire to conduct self-directed research through to completion. Working with the center's management, specialists and advisors are expected to develop their own agenda for research and programming.
Each year an industry specialist is expected to produce several papers (including a mix of original research and summaries of center events) and organize several workshops. Approximately every other year, he or she will lead the organization of a larger conference. Industry specialists also present the results of their research at conferences directed toward industry, policy, and academic audiences.
In addition to the responsibilities just described, the special advisor is expected to produce influential, and potentially technical, original research. The special advisor may lead complex projects on behalf of the center, the Bank, or the Federal Reserve System. He or she may represent the center in industry work groups or take a leading role in policy discussions with regulatory bodies.
While much of the center's written output is directed to a general audience, the center also produces research papers that are suitable for publication in academic journals. The center provides resources, such as data, access to coauthors, and travel funds to facilitate high-quality research publications.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum requirements for the industry specialist position include extensive knowledge of consumer credit and payments obtained through three or more years of relevant work experience. An undergraduate degree is required but an advanced degree in a field such as business, economics, finance, public policy, law, or statistics is preferred.
Minimum requirements for the special advisor position include seven years of relevant industry or policy experience and an advanced degree in a field such as business, economics, finance, public policy, law, or statistics. Additional formal training (such as a Ph.D.) will be taken into account when evaluating a candidate's relevant experience.
ABOUT THE PAYMENT CARDS CENTER: The Payment Cards Center carries out its mission through an agenda of applied research and analysis, as well as workshops and conferences that encourage dialogue incorporating industry, consumer, academic, nonprofit, and public-sector perspectives. The center also collaborates with researchers in other parts of the Philadelphia Fed, including staff in the Economic Research and Supervision, Regulation, and Credit departments.
