Faculty Positions
The Faculty of Law at Thompson Rivers University (TRU) invites applications from candidates with a strong commitment to innovation and excellence in teaching and research as well as collegial interaction for tenure-track appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor or tenured appointments at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. A Limited Term appointment may also be considered, rank to be determined by qualifications and experience. The appointment is expected to commence July 1, 2018, although alternate starting dates may be arranged for excellent candidates.
The goal of TRU Law in our appointment process is to augment the existing staff's excellence in teaching and high quality research of international stature through attracting exceptional individuals who will strengthen our law program to become even more rigorous, challenging and innovative. Applicants in all fields of law are welcome.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The successful applicant will be expected to teach and mentor law students, establish a significant research program, contribute to the further building of our new law school now in its 7th year of operation, as well as provide leadership in strengthening our growing ties with the communities and First Nations of Interior and Northern BC.
ABOUT THE FACULTY OF LAW: Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law offers a dynamic legal education located in the stunning natural beauty of British Columbia's Thompson Valley. We offer a well-established curriculum taught by an outstanding group of legal academics with the benefit of state-of the-art facilities in an award winning new law school building that includes bright, modern classrooms and student study spaces. It also houses a brand new law library. We further benefit from the active participation of highly talented lawyers and judges as sessional lecturers, moot coaches and mentors. TRU Law students have already embarked upon interesting and varied career paths, and virtually 100% of the students from our 2014, 2015 and 2015 graduating classes who were known to be seeking articles were successful. Our recent 2017 graduates are on a similar path.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have a JD, LLB or equivalent degree, as well as a LL.M. or equivalent. Possession of a PhD, SJD or LLD is preferred. Candidates must have a superior academic record as well as a demonstrated record of, or a strong potential for, excellence in scholarly research and teaching. In addition, they should have the ability and willingness to contribute to the intellectual and scholarly life of the Faculty and to the University more generally. Candidates considered for appointments with tenure must have an outstanding record of scholarship as well as significant and positive experience in teaching.
