The Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a UBC Professorship in Constitutional Law. This UBC Professorship has been established in honour of the Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin, P.C., Chief Justice of Canada, who taught at the Allard School of Law for seven years before being appointed to the bench in 1981.

JOB DESCRIPTION: This professorship is a tenured or tenure-track appointment at the rank of Associate or Assistant Professor. Entry level candidates will not be considered. Our preference is to appoint at the Associate Professor level. Candidates with several years of full-time teaching experience and a strong research record beyond their graduate work can be considered for appointment at the Assistant Professor level if not yet appointable at the Associate level. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated research record in Constitutional Law and/or Comparative Constitutional Law and will be expected to teach Canadian Constitutional Law (comprised of Federalism, Charter, and Aboriginal Law & Treaty Rights) and related subjects within the JD and/or graduate program.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: An LLB, JD, or equivalent law degree is required, and, absent exceptional circumstances, a completed PhD or SJD or other doctoral degree in law or a related discipline is also required. The successful candidate will have an outstanding academic profile, including scholarly publications and research plans that demonstrate the ability to contribute to the acclaimed record of research and scholarship at one of Canada's internationally recognized law schools. The successful candidate will have an outstanding research profile and a record of effective teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in mentoring JD and graduate students in the area of Constitutional Law.

The appointment will commence July 1, 2018, with a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications.
