In cooperation with Universität Bremen, the Legal Scholarship Network (LSN) is pleased to announce the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) Law Conferences 2021 eJournal. This eJournal is available to all subscribers at no charge and contains abstracts of the meeting papers with links to the full text in the SSRN eLibrary.

The first Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) Law Conference took place in May 2021 at the University of Bremen, bringing together experts from the YUFE Law Faculties representing different legal fields and various legal systems. These experts addressed the issue of informed consent and the proportionality of its regulation under EU and Member State law. Under the liberal paradigm, consent is the cornerstone of the legitimation of law. Despite the empirical evidence from behavioral economists showing the failures of the model in various areas of the law, it lies still at the heart of today's regulatory initiatives in almost any legal field. The conference addressed the various ways informed consent is extended in areas of the law and the challenges that it poses. The success of the conference led to the commitment for the YUFE Law Conferences to be held on an annual basis. As a result, the second conference will examine the principle of sustainability as a legal principle in an interdisciplinary way.
