The Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba invites applications for a full-time, probationary position at the rank of Instructor I, Instructor II, or Senior Instructor. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This Instructor will play a key role in providing clinical programming to students in the Faculty of Law with the ability to teach across a variety of areas.

Areas of interest for the Faculty include: Clinical/Experiential and other course offerings and in particular: Indigenous Law (instruction and curricular development), Family Law, Civil Procedure and/or the ability to contribute to our JD curriculum across a variety of course possibilities and offerings. Candidates should describe which courses they would want to teach or develop and what kind of clinical expertise they may have to offer law students.

The ideal candidate will:
• possess a J.D. or LLB;
• be or be able to be a Member of the Manitoba Bar (including possessing the ability to supervise clinical or articling students); and
• have a:
o Masters level degree in law (or a related discipline); OR
o Alternatively, the equivalent as a practicing lawyer (approximately 5 years).

Responsibilities and Abilities:

The ideal candidate will be comfortable joining a Faculty of Law committed to Truth and Reconciliation and the Calls to Action. We are looking to hire a teaching and clinical stream Instructor that is willing to be an active part of Indigenization of a law program including developing our clinical and teaching curriculum. We are in the process of hiring an Indigenous Law Student Program Support Coordinator, and are actively developing plans for an Indigenous Chairship and/or additional tenure-track positions.

Responsibilities and abilities include:
• Potential or demonstrated teaching excellence, particularly in clinical learning
• Ability to effectively communicate with adult learners
• Ability to instruct in the areas described above or alternatively other areas that make key contributions to the Law School
• An ability to incorporate the Calls to Action in teaching or developing courses, curriculum or clinical content
• Ability to work in a collegial environment with Instructors, Professors and Support Staff
• Potential to contribute to service in the Faculty, University and professional/legal community including administrative and committee work in an academic environment such as curricular proposals and work pertaining to academic innovation
