Job Description & Qualification

The University of Southern California, Gould School of Law seeks a full-time Associate Dean for Registration & Academic Services to join its team.

The Associate Dean for Registration & Academic Services will be responsible for the strategic leadership of the Gould School of Law registration services office and academic services offices. This position will lead the registration office in the operations of student registration, grades and records, academic services and more. This position will either manage or work collaboratively with other student services offices within the Law School.

Job Summary:
Plans, coordinates, and provides leadership in all aspects of the curriculum offerings of the Law School. Liaises with the Graduate & International Programs office who supports the curriculum for non-JD graduate programs.
Develops and maintains the academic schedule for the Law School, updating course offerings in accordance with University policies and procedures.
Establishes and administers processes and procedures for student records management, archiving, and destruction, in accordance with established regulations, policies, and standards for the maintenance, handling, and disposition of student and institutional records.
Oversees compilation, recording, verification, and dissemination of all data related to student enrollment, curriculum, academic progress, grades, and bar pass rates for the Law School.
Provides and/or oversees provision of advice to JD students regarding graduation requirements, to include residency requirements, bar course-load selection, certificate requirements, and time management requirements for graduation.
Oversees all aspects of the examination process for the Law School including the JD, non-JD graduate and undergraduate programs. Creates examination schedules, directs and supervises exam preparation and distribution to faculty, special exam arrangements, and proctoring.
Oversees examination retention and destruction, in accordance with established policies, regulations, and guidelines.
Monitors JD student academic standing, probation, and suspension; certifies completion of graduation requirements and eligibility for bar examinations.
Manages the processing and recording of all student grades across all programs, submission of grades to main campus, processing of grade changes, and tabulation of academic and graduation honors listings.
Oversees the supervision of registrar personnel, which includes work allocation, training, promotion, enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Serves as a member of the senior leadership team, provides leadership, and works collaboratively with all areas of the school in developing, implementing and measurement of the School's registrar functions and the direction and deployment of school resources.
Manages the Law School’s academic services, to include academic and professional advising, and other student services.
Serves as the liaison between the law school administration and the registration services office and academic services offices.

Expectations for Performance:
The Associate Dean for Registration & Academic Services will utilize strong leadership qualities and the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with colleagues throughout the school, university and communities served by the school. The Associate Dean will learn, use, implement, evaluate and recommend current and future technologies in the enrollment management area; and utilize strong administrative, planning and problem-solving skills. The Associate Dean will possess and utilize a strong working knowledge of higher education, and student services, enrollment management and marketing. The Associate Dean will understand the needs and desires of non-traditional students, will be committed to academic excellence, the provision of high quality services, and understand and respect institutional policies and procedures.

Relevant Credentials and Preferred Experience:
A J.D. degree is strongly preferred.
Relevant experience in higher education in the areas of student services, enrollment management and marketing including budgetary and personnel management responsibilities, and strategic planning.
Five years in an academic leadership role.
Knowledge of and experience in applying best practices in the areas of student services, enrollment management, recruitment, outreach and marketing.
Knowledge of current regulations pertaining to student records and protection of student information/identity.
Possess ability to utilize technology to facilitate, support and improve student services; possess excellent problem resolution, project management and leadership skills; demonstrated experience in resource allocation and implementing change; and demonstrated ability to work collegially with students, faculty, administrators, and support personnel.
