Senior Lecturer in Finance

Job Description & Qualification

The Department of Economics and Related Studies is seeking to appoint at Senior Lecturer in
Finance, preferably beginning in September 2023. You will be joining a talented group of researchers in a world-class and vibrant research environment with the opportunity to grow the international reputation of yourself and the Department.

Role

• Generate new research approaches and identify, adapt, develop and use research methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research and development undertaken
• Lead on and/or contribute to the production of research outputs and research outcomes
• Publish high impact research in quality journals, either as a sole author or in collaboration with others, and to devise, direct and develop research projects generating external research funding.
• Take responsibility for overseeing, developing and promoting innovative teaching and learning approaches and material, which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students.
• Lead the design, development and delivery of a range of academic modules and ensure that design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the Department and University.
• Undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities.


Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

A PhD, or equivalent professional experience, in Economics or a related discipline is essential. You should also hold an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.
You will have extensive specialist knowledge in your subject area and experience of designing, developing, delivering and leading teaching to undergraduate and postgraduate Economics students, within Economics programmes, and to set and mark assessments and examinations.
Your research expertise will complement and enhance the department's research strategy and goals.
You will have advanced and specialist IT knowledge and highly developed communication skills.
You will have a positive attitude to colleagues and students, and a proactive and collaborative ethos with a willingness to undertake administrative/management duties for the department/University.
You will have a proven track record with high quality journal publications and conference presentations, and an extensive track record of teaching and learning in HE at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
You will have outstanding qualities and achievements in scholarship and research at a national and international level with a well-established reputation. You will be able to motivate others in both teaching and research, and demonstrate major research leadership internally and externally, and take a leading role in the supervision of research students. You will have the ability to extend, transform and apply knowledge from scholarship.

The Department of Economics and Related Studies is one of the leading Economics departments and contributes world-class research expertise and research-led teaching through a range of specialised programs. Our academic community of staff, students and visitors from a wide range of areas of Economics and Finance is both intellectually vibrant and international in perspective.

Finance is a thriving and growing group in the Department with research interests in asset pricing, banking, corporate finance, financial econometrics and macro finance amongst others. The Centre for Applied Macro-Finance (CAMF) is based in the Department and has run the successful Asset Pricing Workshop in conjunction with external partners such as the Bank of England. There is a new flourishing integrated PhD programme as well as specialist taught programmes at all levels.

The Department will provide excellent research support to enable the successful applicants to achieve their full research potential, including a suite of database subscriptions, excellent seminar series and support to develop research grant proposals including through pump-priming funds.

We are looking for colleagues with research interests in any area of Finance.
