Job Description & Qualification

The University of Toronto Scarborough is implementing a new Strategic Plan: Inspiring Inclusive Excellence. This position is part of a cohort of similar faculty searches in Arts, Culture and Media, Biological Sciences, Health & Society, Historical & Cultural Studies, Language Studies, Political Science, and Sociology. New colleagues will have the opportunity to be connected with previous cohorts of faculty from under-represented groups, including those hired through targeted efforts in the last three years in departments spanning the Management, Sciences, Social Sciences, and Humanities.

Candidates must have earned a PhD degree in Accounting, or a closely related area with a clearly demonstrated exceptional record of excellence in research and teaching expertise in accounting. Particular attention will be given to applicants with a research focus on corporate governance and proven record teaching data analytics. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellence in research and teaching that complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths and that will advance the values and objectives associated with the University of Toronto Scarborough’s commitment to Inclusive Excellence. Candidates will have an established international reputation and will be expected to sustain and lead innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to maintain an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program.

Responsibilities include advancing the area's research agenda; helping strengthen and enhance the master of accounting and finance (MaccFin) program as well the accounting specialist for the undergraduate students. A candidate is expected to teach in both the graduate and the undergraduate programs at the University of Toronto Scarborough; active involvement in graduate student education and training through the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management.

Candidates must provide evidence of established and sustained research excellence which can be demonstrated by a submitted research statement, ongoing innovative and independent research of international reputation, an outstanding record of sustained high-impact contributions and publications in leading peer-reviewed journals in accounting, as well as a highly successful track record of research funding, presentations at significant conferences, distinguished awards and accolades, and other noteworthy activities that contribute to the visibility and prominence of the discipline, as well as strong endorsements from referees of high standing.

Candidates must provide demonstrable evidence of teaching excellence, including accomplishments in program and curriculum development, pedagogical innovations, undergraduate and graduate student mentoring and supervision, and effective teaching through a teaching dossier submitted as part of the application (with required materials outlined below), as well as strong letters of reference.
