Special Issue: Recent Changes in Financial Markets and Trading

Guest Editor: Robert Van Ness, University of Mississippi

Description of Purpose and Scope of the Special Issue:
The purpose of this special issue is to examine recent changes in financial markets, trading, and innovations in Finance. Recently we have seen a number of changes such as: the close and reopening of the NYSE floor (due to COVID-19); introduction of new exchanges (such as the Members Exchange, Miami Exchange, and the Long-Term Stock Exchange), growth in retail trading (and the emergence of trading platforms such as Robinhood and Public); increased usage/trading of cryptocurrency; IPOs of SPACS (and trading of SPACS); trading of fractional shares or stock “slices”; increases in non-fungible tokens (NFTs); the introduction of Coinbase; as well as other market changes and innovations.

This Special Issue will focus on recent changes in markets, trading, and innovations in finance. We seek to attract high quality research papers focused on a better understanding of these innovations and their effects. Submissions focused on theoretical arguments, empirical papers containing in-depth analyses, as well as behaviorally-focused manuscripts are encouraged. Issues that may be addressed include, but are not limited to:
• New evidence regarding retail trading
• New and recent evidence for cryptocurrency markets and Non-fungible tokens (NFTs)
• New and recent changes in market microstructure (rules, fees, and market structure changes).
• Other recent financial market changes and innovations.
