Call for Papers: 4th SDU Finance Workshop

Conference dates

12 Jun 2019 - 14 Jun 2019

University of Southern Denmark, Odense, Denmark

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS: Gordon Phillips (Dartmouth) and Andrey Malenko (MIT)

ORGANIZING COMMITTEE: Christian Riis Flor, Dirk Hackbarth, Stefan Hirth, Evgeny Lyandres, and Alexander Schandlbauer

OVERVIEW: We invite a limited number of participants to a three-day workshop on “The Firms’ Life Cycle”. Each workshop day is split into two parts: The mornings are dedicated to presentations of ongoing research projects. The afternoons are open for meetings and discussions on ideas according to the different phases of a firm’s life cycle. This is done in groups and the workshop concludes by the groups sharing their thoughts on the unified view on events along the firm’s life cycle.

There is no registration fee. A limited budget is available to cover accommodation and/or travel costs for speakers and discussants.

TOPICS: We encourage submissions that contribute to the understanding of firms’ behavior at different stages of their life cycle. Both empirical and theoretical papers are welcome. We particularly welcome contributions that shed light on three distinct phases of a firm’s life cycle:
1. The start-up funding, the decision to stay private or to enter the stock market.
2. The firms’ real investment decisions and how they are financed, including acquisitions from the acquirer’s point of view.
3. A focus on the end of the life cycle, e.g. the decision to sell the firm to an acquirer or to liquidate the firm’s assets.

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: Please submit the full paper or an extended abstract by March 24, 2019. Email your paper to:

Expected date for notification of the decision: April 8, 2019.
