The Department of Banking and Finance looks for exceptional candidates for the Banking and Finance Doctoral Program at the Monash Business School. On Monday May 20th, 2019. the department will hold an information session in Singapore introducing its Doctoral Program, followed by interviews of selected candidates on Tuesday May 21st, 2019.

About the Department: The Department of Banking and Finance in the Monash Business School is one of the largest finance departments in the world and comprises approximately 60 academic staff engaged in teaching and research in the areas of corporate finance, asset pricing, banking and financial institutions, behavioural finance, market microstructure, and derivatives.

As part of the Business School's ongoing commitment to the recruitment of world-class professors, we have appointed Professor Stephen Brown, Emeritus Professor of Finance at NYU Stern as a Professor to the Department of Banking and Finance. Professor Stephen Brown conducts the Research Masterclass in which PhD students present and obtain valuable feedback on their current research agenda. The department has also hired academics who hold a PhD degree from renowed universities, e.g., Erasmus University Rotterdam, Indiana University, London School of Economics, Toulouse School of Economics, and University of South California.

Program Description: The PhD in Banking and Finance offered by our Department is designed to provide students with a rigorous academic grounding in their area of specialisation and the skills required to undertake original research that contribute significantly to knowledge. Students will complete eight coursework units in the first year, designed to provide advanced finance, econometrics and research method training. Upon successful completion of these units at a distinction grade, PhD students will progress to working on their doctoral thesis under the guidance of PhD supervisors who are experts in the area of their doctoral thesis.

• Presentation by Associate Professor Jin Yu, PhD Program Director, covering:
a. the application procedure, research and English requirements, and deadlines
b. the scholarship and recent placements of our recent PhD graduates
c. the IT support and extensive set of databases of the department
d. the research activities and outputs of the department
• Q&A
• Joint dinner with candidates and Monash selection panel (Professor Chris Veld, Associate Professor Jin Yu, and Dr. Eden Zhang)
