PhD Program in Finance - Stockholm School of Economics


The Stockholm School of Economics (SSE) invites excellent candidates to apply for the PhD Program in Finance, a five-year full-time program with generous financial support, starting in Fall 2019.

The finance department at SSE ( consists of 19 full-time faculty members and provides a dynamic and stimulating environment with weekly research seminars and several annual conferences. The SSE finance department is also part of the Swedish House of Finance (, a national research initiative, host to a unique and comprehensive data center. Through the Swedish House of Finance, the finance department attracts leading scholars for research and teaching visits and can support research-related travel for PhD students.

A strong track record of placing our graduates in leading research institutions around the world reflects the strengths of the program and the dedication of faculty to support PhD students. Our graduates have obtained positions at institutions such as New York University, McGill University, University of Toronto, Copenhagen Business School, HEC Montreal, Tilburg University, Bocconi University, and the Federal Reserve Board.

Application Requirements

Applicants should have a Master’s degree in finance or economics (or equivalent). Students who are currently enrolled in a program and are graduating before July 2019 may also apply.

The application period starts on December 1, 2018, and ends on February 1, 2019.
