Description

The World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) invites the submission of theoretical, empirical, and policy research papers on issues related to the role of capital markets in the pursuit of sustainability and ESG goals. Papers will be double-blind reviewed by the WFE Academic Advisory Group who will select those to be presented at the WFE 2nd Annual Global Meeting on Sustainability, based on their relevance, originality and academic rigour. This event will be hosted by Singapore Exchange (SGX) in Singapore on June 5, 2025. Accepted papers will be assigned an industry discussant.

With this initiative, the WFE aims to bring academia and industry together, in a mutually enriching conversation, to stimulate the generation of new ideas and approaches on issues related to the role of capital markets in the pursuit of sustainability and ESG goals.

Within the context of capital markets and ESG, topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• The impact of ESG disclosure and reporting standards
• Integrating nature and biodiversity reporting
• Sustainable and climate finance
• Environmental economics and climate change
• The sustainability and ESG implications for corporate governance
• Carbon markets
• Supply chains
• Exchange-traded products (green bonds, green sukuk, green derivatives, water futures, carbon markets derivatives, etc.) and potential new ESG products and markets
• Transition finance and managing the transition with shareholders
• Taxonomies – how to capture transition more effectively and the impact this could have on issuers
• The role of issuers and exchanges in supporting a Just Transition
• Impact of sustainability and ESG integration on SMEs
• The role of ratings, indices, and related intermediaries (rating agencies, ESG assurance providers, standard setters, etc.).
