Call for Participants - 9th Annual Business Valuation Competition
Description
The J. Mack Robinson College of Business and Department of Finance are proud to host the 9th annual Business Valuation Competition. The competition was founded and developed by Professor Herbert Kierulff and previously hosted by Seattle Pacific University. We are grateful to their contributions and continued support. In honor of Dr. Kierulff’s work, the “Kierulff Cup” trophy will be awarded to the first place team. This year, substantial cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams ($5,000 for first, $3,000 for second and $2,000 for third place).
The Challenge is an Undergraduate and Graduate student competition where a team of students must value a privately held entity. The teams will be provided a case as well as reference materials. The teams will also be provided access to a private business valuation database provided by Business Valuation Resources, LLC (BVR). This material is valued at over $5,000 per participant and BVR is the major source of data for privately held equity. The competition will do its best to ensure that each team participating has a local, professional, industry mentor provided by The American Society of Appraisers (ASA).
This year the challenge will be held at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business’ state of the art facilities in Buckhead, Atlanta on Saturday November 16th, 2024 with a welcome dinner and keynote speaker at the Buckhead Club on Friday November 15th, 2024. There are spots for 24 teams to enter. From those 24, 6 teams will be chosen to come to Atlanta. A team from SPU and GSU will also be invited to compete. During the day of the competition there will be educational and networking opportunities for when the teams are not presenting.
This is an incredible opportunity and learning experience for the students involved. We try to make this competition as “real world” as possible, and valuation in practice is often much different than is experienced in the classroom. There will also be numerous networking events available to the students during the event.
