Boca Finance and Real-Estate Conference
In person only, at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida, USA
Scope of the Conference:
We are delighted to invite you to the Boca Finance and Real-Estate Conference. The conference will be held in person at the fabulous Schmidt Family Complex at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida, USA on the 12th and 13th of December 2024. We plan to have two morning sessions, one lunch/keynote presentation, and one late afternoon session each day. We will have a reception after the last session on Thursday afternoon that is graciously being sponsored by Real Estate Programs at the Miami Herbert Business School.
The conference theme is “Interest-Rate Risk and it’s Impact on Banking and Real Estate.” The unprecedented increase in interest rates orchestrated by the Federal Reserve Board during 2022 – 2023 has profoundly affected the values of long-duration securities as well as the values of fixed-rate mortgages and commercial real estate. We are looking for papers that document and analyze these effects.
We invite the submission of original papers on this topic but will consider other topics related to banking, financial institutions, commercial real estate, and residential real estate, as well as corporate finance. The conference offers an interdisciplinary forum to gain feedback on timely working papers from scholars in the accounting, economics, finance, and real-estate disciplines.

Submission Deadline:
Oct. 14, 2024. We prefer and will give preference to full papers but will consider shorter 10-page extended abstracts if the authors commit to submitting a completed paper by Oct. 31, 2024.
Notification of Acceptance: On or before Oct. 15, 2024.
Presenters must register for the conference on or before Oct. 31, 2024, or their paper will be removed from the program.
Presenters will be expected to discuss another conference paper at the conference.
Publication Opportunities:
The conference is partnering with the Financial Review, the Journal of Financial Research, and the Quarterly Journal of Finance to provide conference papers with publication opportunities.
The Financial Review: The Conference Organizing Committee will choose selected papers from those presented at the Conference to be considered for publication at The Financial Review (FR).
The submission to FR will be from Dec. 16, 2024 to Jan. 31, 2025. To speed up the review process, the authors are required to attach a “Response letter to the discussant” that shows all the changes made to their manuscript based on the discussant’s report. The papers will then go through a blind review process. This is a “no-fault” submission option, which means that if the
FR decides to review the paper and rejects it, the authors can submit the paper to the FR through the normal submission process. Papers submitted must not be under review at any other journal.
Journal of Financial Research: The Conference Organizing Committee will choose selected papers from those presented at the Conference to be considered for publication at The Journal of Financial Research (JFR). The submission to JFR will be from Dec. 16, 2024 to Jan. 31, 2025.
To speed up the review process, the authors are required to attach a “Response letter to the discussant” that shows all the changes made to their manuscript based on the discussant’s report.
The papers will then go through a blind review process. This is a “no-fault” submission option, which means that if the JFR decides to review the paper and rejects it, the authors can submit the paper to the JFR through the normal submission process. Papers submitted must not be under review at any other journal.
The Quarterly Journal of Finance: The editors of The Quarterly Journal of Finance (QJF) invite authors who wish to publish in the QJF to submit their conference papers to the QJF in a “no-fault,” “no fees” submission. Authors are asked to attach a “Response Letter to the Conference Discussant” with the discussant comments and authors’ responses. (We note that the QJF does not automatically accept the discussants’ points.) If the QJF rejects a paper, authors can submit to the QJF a future version. Submitted papers must be original and not under review at any other journal.
We look forward to seeing you in Boca on December 12 – 13, 2024!
