The University of Miami Herbert School of Business is seeking applicants for our PhD program in Accounting. We are looking for students with solid academic credentials and a desire to pursue an academic career in research and teaching. The Miami Herbert PhD program has a demonstrated record of mentoring and working with students and a track record of placing our PhD graduates in faculty positions at prestigious research universities (e.g., the University of Chicago and MIT).

Miami Herbert's accounting faculty is world-renowned and has published in leading accounting, finance, and economics journals, such as the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of Financial Economics, and the American Economics Journal. As recognized experts in the field, our faculty members are regularly invited to and present their research at leading universities and research conferences.

In the Accounting PhD at the University of Miami, Ph.D. students will work with our world-class faculty to explore questions about how information is gathered, organized, reported, and used by economic agents, such as managers, investors, creditors and regulators, in complex capital markets.

Professor Mark Maffett, an expert in the effects of international financial reporting, institutional investors, and disclosure regulation, has over a decade of research and teaching experience--beginning his career at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business before moving to the University of Miami. He believes that aspiring accounting scholars should think big and study questions with the potential to have a broad impact in academia, business, and beyond.
