Description

SKEMA Corporate Restructuring Conference - Call for Papers

Conference Dates and Location
May 11-12, 2023 at SKEMA Business School, Sophia Antipolis (Nice) campus, France

Corporations are facing high levels of economic uncertainty caused by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and recent dramatic geopolitical events. In addition, they are under pressure to address climate change and take steps to ensure the sustainability of their operations. These rapidly evolving pressures require them to adapt. Corporate restructuring, which involves changes to operations, structure or financing, provides a way to ensure the continuing profitability of businesses, and even their very survival. Corporate restructuring research has a long history, but the current economic and environmental conditions under which firms are operating suggest the need to revisit and update our knowledge of the topic. To better understand the challenges and opportunities of the current tensions for firms, and their implications for governance and regulation, SKEMA Business School will dedicate its 2023 Finance Conference to Corporate Restructuring. SKEMA's FAIRR research center has vast experience investigating corporate restructuring through its excellence in corporate governance, regulation, and entrepreneurial finance.

The workshop will take place on May 11-12, 2023, at SKEMA Sophia Antipolis Campus in Nice, France in person.

The keynote address will be given by Professor John Graham of Duke University, Fuqua School of Business.

We invite researchers to submit their work on corporate restructuring and other governance mechanisms on topics including, but not limited to:
• Financial distress and corporate bankruptcy
• Mergers and acquisitions
• Corporate breakup transactions (spin-offs, carve-outs, divestitures…)
• Equity rights issues (initial public offerings, seasoned equity offerings, special purpose acquisition companies….)
• Private equity transactions, leveraged buyouts, and recapitalizations
• Activist investors
• New technologies and corporate restructuring

Submission Procedure: Authors should submit their papers via email to corporate.restructuring@skema.edu in PDF format before February 2, 2023. Successful authors will be notified before March 1, 2023.
