The Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business at Iowa State University invites applications for the position of Chair for the Department of Finance, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2018. Reporting to the dean, the department chair works with the dean and associate deans to coordinate the overall management of the department. The chair regularly interacts with university senior leadership, college level leadership, faculty members, staff, students, and external and internal constituents.

JOB DESCRIPTION: While providing leadership in multiple areas, the department chair also develops, administers, coordinates, and promotes the academic programs offered by the departments. The chair prepares course schedules, in consultation with the dean's office and faculty, and represents the department within the college, across the university, and to external constituencies. The department chair supports teaching, research and service, and conducts faculty advancement reviews, annual performance reviews, and pay evaluations.

The department chair is responsible for recruiting and retaining faculty members in cooperation with the faculty and the dean's office; assisting with career development; developing and coordinating external relationships with recruiters, alumni, and other groups; working with development staff on fund raising; and developing and communicating plans to advance the department's goals. The department chair plans and oversees expenditures to meet departmental goals. The chair supervises staff and coordinates outcomes assessments preparation for accreditation reviews.

As a faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, the Chair is expected to maintain an active research program aimed at publishing in premier and high impact journals as recognized by the Department of Finance. Upon arrival, the successful candidate will meet with the dean to establish their PRS (position responsibility statement) to define responsibilities in the area of administration leadership, research, teaching, and service.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Doctoral degree in Finance or a related discipline, from an accredited institution. Candidates must meet the university, college and departmental standards for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure, including academic credentials and a strong research record and a demonstrated commitment to high quality teaching in the Department of Finance of the College of Business.
