The ERVA Visioning Report Series includes reports and related materials that result from the visioning activities of the Engineering Research Visioning Alliance (ERVA). The reports in this series are designed to capture nascent or less-explored research ideas in engineering and associated technical areas and to catalyze new research to address society's most pressing problems. Researchers in public and private settings are encouraged to download the reports and leverage the insight in their own R&D projects.
ERVA is a neutral convener that helps to identify and develop bold and transformative new engineering research directions, directly supporting the nation's ability to compete in a rapidly changing global economy. Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Directorate for Engineering, ERVA is a diverse, inclusive and engaged partnership that enables an array of voices to impact national research priorities. The five-year initiative convenes, catalyzes and empowers the engineering community to identify nascent opportunities and priorities for engineering-led innovative, high-impact, cross-domain, fundamental research that addresses national, global and societal needs. ERVA visioning events are framed by a bespoke Thematic Task Force that is appointed to address a specific visioning theme. Visioning event participants are selected for their expertise and ability to contribute bold, innovative ideas for fundamental research exploration. Papers are published electronically and available online. To receive email updates about ERVA events and publication, sign up here.
