The James H. and Mary B. Quello Center (https://quello.msu.edu/) conducts research that stimulates and informs public debate on media, communication and information policy. Our critically interrogates traditional assumptions about the role of technology, policy and regulation for citizens, communities, and society. It aims at helping to harness to the full benefits of advanced communication technologies and services while mitigating undesirable effects. The Center's interdisciplinary research draws from multiple empirical methods and multi-disciplinary theoretical perspectives. The Quello Center is based in the Department of Media and Information at Michigan State University (MSU). It consists of a core set of researchers, complemented by research associates across MSU as well as other U.S. and international universities and research centers. Professor Johannes M. Bauer was appointed as Director of the Quello Center in 2019. Current projects range across local, state, national and global levels, including research on digital entrepreneurship and innovation, broadband and next-generation Internet connectivity, digital exclusion and inclusion, information-seeking in a dynamic online environment, and the social effects of digital technology on education, incomes, and economic development.
