Bhutan Law Network at JSW Law Legal Studies Research Paper Series

Bhutan's first law school, The Jigme Singye Wangchuck School of Law (JSW Law), opened its doors to students in July of 2017. JSW Law was established to train a new generation of Bhutanese lawyers in Bhutan. The education these students receive is modern and internationalized, and yet also consistent with traditional Bhutanese values and norms, including Bhutan's unique development strategy, Gross National Happiness (GNH). As Bhutan's only law school, JSW Law is uniquely situated to build the capacity of Bhutan's legal profession to play a proactive and stabilizing role as Bhutan continues to modernize and develop. In pursuit of this mandate, JSW Law has developed an innovative curriculum with a heavy emphasis on experiential education, research, critical reflection, history, public policy and, of course, the law. The Bhutan Law Network is a collaborative endeavor with other stakeholders in Bhutan's justice sector to make available original works from a diverse range of experts, in topics related to GNH, law, and development in Bhutan. This network serves as a central repository for relevant and otherwise difficult-to-access research on Bhutan for scholars and legal practitioners.
