Visual, Performing & Fine Arts

Broadly defined, art is the use of imagination or creative skill to produce works to be contemplated and appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. Visual, Performing & Fine Arts is an interdisciplinary space that contains scholarship on modes of expression based on the image or, more generally, visual expression. The core of this research contains studies of artistic expression of all varieties including the history of art, scholarly criticism, decorative art and design, studies of the moving image, theater, and dance. This space also contains scholarship on the legal aspect of the arts, management of cultural institutions, and heritage studies as well as exhibition reviews, essays on contemporary art, and theoretical works on the philosophy of art and aesthetics. SSRN provides a unique platform for the exchange of scholarship among these rapidly changing, inter-related areas. Although many fields, disciplines, and topics related to these aspects have dedicated online spaces, none offers the breadth and scholarly rigor of SSRN.
