Quantitative Research Analyst

JOB DESCRIPTION: Jupiter seeks a Quantitative Research Analyst to add to its implementation capability. The role is within the investment management group reporting to the Jupiter Absolute Return fund management team: Head of Investment - Alternatives. Duties would include working with portfolio managers and team members to implement investment models, optimise and develop systems, create portfolio analytics, and add to our investment toolkit. The applicant should expect to interact with experienced portfolio managers and quantitative researchers: a diverse team of PhDs and investment professional. This is a unique opportunity to work with a growing, energetic team with significant room for advancement. This is a full-time position located in the firm's London office.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake research on alpha factors by identifying ideas, gathering and cleaning data, performing statistical analysis, backtesting, and interpreting and presenting the results.
- Plan architecture and infrastructure for a financial database systems environment.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of the quantitative research environment.
- Design and support data feeds, databases, and scheduled production jobs.
- Access and integrate disparate sources of data.
- Develop new code and extend existing code bases in programming languages such as Python, R, and Matlab.
- Manage relationships with internal business partners and vendors with whom we work closely on a daily basis.
- Work on other duties as directed by the fund management team.
- Be available for on call support and occasional overtime.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Strong quantitative background. Hands-on experience in research, data science and/or predictive modelling is desirable.
- High-level programming ability in Python, R, SQL, Matlab or similar.
- Experience in investment management and/or investment operations and/or performance analysis, in addition experience in quantitative equity would be desirable.
- Empirical research experience analysing data sets.
- Experience with investment databases like Factset and Markit is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to acquire and work with new software tools, programming languages, and computer environments.
- Self-starter with the ability to manage the lifecycle of the research process, from idea generation, data selection and wrangling, prototyping predictive models, and backtesting to monitoring ex-ante performance.
- Ability to take ownership of projects, with a strong focus on quality, accuracy and intuitiveness of output.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and present research findings.
- Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise a complex workload.
- Problem-solving abilities to complete projects with minimal support.
- Flexibility to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrate a passion for investing, motivation and an eagerness to learn in a collaborative environment.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: PhD or ABD in finance or accounting is preferred, especially candidates who have focused on empirical investments or empirical asset pricing. We will also consider PhD or ABD candidates in economics, computer science, statistics, mathematics or other quantitative disciplines if candidates have an interest or a background in asset management.
