Assistant Professor in Accounting (tenure track)

The University of Southern Denmark invites applications for one or more positions as Assistant Professor in Accounting. Tenure track positions are offered. Applications are invited from Ph.D. candidates in the areas of financial accounting, management accounting, and auditing, irrespective of research methodology.

ABOUT THE FACULTY OF BUSINESS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES: The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at SDU conducts research within Business (including accounting and auditing), Economics, Political Science and Law. The accounting area is responsible for all undergraduate and graduate accounting courses at the five campuses of the University of Southern Denmark. The accounting area has a research group, which is located in Odense and Kolding. There are positions at both campuses. Faculty members are expected to be physically present on a regular basis and actively participate in the teaching and research activities of the Department as well as maintaining and establishing broad links across SDU.

It is the aim of the Faculty to carry out research of high international standards, documented through publications in internationally distinguished journals and through presentations at international conferences, and to offer high-quality research-based teaching, using the newest teaching methods to enhance students' learning. The Faculty provides a supportive research and teaching environment; research facilities, travel support, etc. in general compare favorably to other European universities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: A candidate should hold a Ph.D. in accounting from a recognized Ph.D.-granting institution by the time of appointment. A list of publications should be included in the application. A maximum of 5 articles can be included in the application. Moreover, the candidate should present a promising research strategy for the coming years and show the potential to publish in international peer-reviewed journals and outlets, within the strategic aim and focus of the research group.

The applicant should document her/his learning philosophy and any university teaching experience in a teaching portfolio.

If the applicant has other qualifications, these should be included in the CV. It could be review activities for journals, publications in Danish or international professional journals, experience with external funding, contributions to departmental administrative tasks, experience with organization of conferences, workshops, seminars, etc.

OBLIGATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS: The main obligations of assistant professors will be research and teaching (incl. supervision), with some administration. Furthermore, it is positive when assistant professors contribute to knowledge exchange by projects with collaboration with private and/or public organizations, dissemination of research, participating in the public debate, relevant committees, etc. A suitable candidate for an Assistant Professor position should have a profile which makes him/her likely to embark on a successful career at the department. Teaching loads are favorable. The teaching and research languages at the Faculty are English and Danish.

The tenure decision is typically made after 5-6 years.

Assessment of applications will be done under existing Appointment Order for universities.
Applications will be assessed by an assessment committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material.
When the assessment committee has submitted its report, the applicant will receive the part of the evaluation that concerns him/her.
Applications that are incomplete with regard to the above requirements will not be assessed by the committee.
