We are pleased to announce the creation of the Ecology Research Network (EcoRN), which focuses on 10 major areas of scholarship. SSRN's newest network provides a worldwide online community for ecology scholars and for the sharing of ideas across a broad spectrum of early-stage research.

The following EcoRN areas are available and subscriptions will be free during the start-up phase.

APPLIED ECOLOGY

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Applied-Ecology.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Applied-Ecology

Description:This area provides a framework for assessing how organisms and ecosystems are influenced by humans. This framework is used to create solutions to mitigate human impact, as well as apply ecological principles and the knowledge of ecosystems to address environmental problems. There is also a strong focus on managing natural resources and protecting ecological integrity.

COMMUNITY ECOLOGY

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Community-Ecology.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Community-Ecology

Description:This area includes content on the spatial and temporal analysis of species interactions, and consequences for community structure and organization. A community is defined as a group of interacting species within the same environment. Community ecology focuses on the abundance and distribution of species, community structure, and biodiversity.

ECOLOGICAL MODELING

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Ecological-Modeling.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Ecological-Modeling

Description:This area includes content on the mathematical and theoretical models, computer simulations, and analysis that are used in ecology. An ecological model provides a way to describe and better understand complex ecological systems, processes, and relationships, which can be used to make predictions about changes in future ecosystems. This area also includes content on performing virtual experiments that would be impossible to do in real life.

ECOLOGY EDUCATOR: COURSES, CASES, & TEACHING

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Ecology-Educator.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Ecology-Educator

Description:This area is designed for the sharing of teaching materials in ecology. All materials related to ecology are encouraged. This includes casebooks, reviews of casebooks, lecture notes, class summaries, outlines, supplementary materials (for your own or someone else's book), syllabi, problems sets, PowerPoint presentations, videos, and other teaching materials.

ECOLOGY NEGATIVE RESULTS

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/EcoRN-Negative-Results.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=EcoRN-Negative-Results

Description:This area includes content in which negative results were found. Negative results are instances in which the expected outcome of the research was not borne out by the results. The negative results eJournal includes papers that have controversial or provocative results that challenge established theories as well as papers that replicate or support findings published elsewhere.

ECOSYSTEM ECOLOGY

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Ecosystem-Ecology.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Ecosystem-Ecology

Description:This area includes content on the study and characterization of ecosystems, with a focus on how energy and nutrients flow through the system. Ecosystem ecology involves the study of biogeochemical cycles, the interaction between the biotic and abiotic components, and how these interactions influence other processes. There is also an emphasis on stability and the dynamics of ecosystem function.

EVOLUTIONARY ECOLOGY

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Evolutionary-Ecology.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Evolutionary-Ecology

Description:This area includes content on the environmental and ecological factors that shape species evolution and drive adaptation, and the consequences of these evolutionary processes at the population, community, and ecosystem level. Ecological factors driving evolution include invasive species and changes to community structure, spread of infectious diseases, new predators, and changes to climate and the abiotic environment.

GLOBAL ECOLOGICAL CHANGE

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Global-Ecological-Change.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Global-Ecological-Change

Description:This area includes content on the anthropogenic drivers of environmental change at spatial, temporal, and socio-economic scales. The main drivers include climate change, land use change, population growth, and pollution. This area focuses on the causes, management, and consequences of global ecological change on ecosystem functioning, natural systems, and biodiversity.

POPULATION ECOLOGY

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Population-Ecology.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Population-Ecology

Description:This area includes content on the dynamics of populations, including size, density, growth, and dispersion, and how they change over time. Populations can range from the individual to the community level, but more often refer to organisms within the same species. There is a strong focus on factors that influence population dynamics, as well as distribution and abundance.

SYSTEMS ECOLOGY

View Papers: http://www.ssrn.com/link/Systems-Ecology.html
Subscribe: http://hq.ssrn.com/jourInvite.cfm?link=Systems-Ecology

Description:This area is an extension of the systems theory, which uses an interdisciplinary approach that looks at how complex systems interact in nature, society, and science. Systems ecology evaluates the ecosystem as a whole and focuses on external interactions, as well as human impact on ecological systems.
