Editors: Jonathan C. Lipson, Harold E. Kohn Professor of Law, Temple University Beasley School of Law, and Jon Smollen, Director, Center for Compliance and Ethics at the Temple University Beasley School of Law

Sponsor: The Center of Compliance & Ethics at Temple University Beasley School of Law advances the study, understanding, and practice of compliance as it evolves as a discipline.

Description: This eJournal includes working and accepted paper abstracts focused on the creation, implementation, and effectiveness of compliance programs within organizations. "Compliance" includes regulations or activities that may create significant enterprise risk, the organizational (e.g. corporate) programs designed to prevent, detect, and deter such risk, as well as allied questions of governance, administration, ethics, and law enforcement presented by the use of (or need for) such programs. The eJournal encourages interdisciplinary research that uses economics, management studies, and other related techniques from the social sciences and humanities, in addition to more traditional legal analysis, to help scholars across disciplines identify, understand, and address issues and problems in compliance.

"Compliance" as a discrete field of study is relatively new, reflecting heightened concerns about criminal or civil liability due to failures of governance, monitoring or preventive and corrective actions. Scholars from many different disciplines within and outside legal studies have begun to focus on compliance, yet no single eJournal captures this developing body of work. The eJournal's editors wish to provide a forum for scholars across disciplines seeking to develop a better understanding of compliance as a legal, economic, administrative, and social phenomenon.
