Call For Papers

Registration Deadline: June 1, 2018 (for presenters)

The 74th Annual Congress of the International Institute of Public Finance will be held in Tampere, Finland, on August 21-23, 2018.

The theme of the 2018 congress is "The Impact of Public Policies on Labor Markets and Income Distribution". During the last few decades, the world has changed remarkably. Capital, people and goods move between countries at an unprecedented pace. In addition, violent conflicts have also caused increased international migration flows. At the same time, technological development has changed many aspects of everyday life, including how we earn our living. Today, governments all over the world strive at coming up with policies to face these challenges. But in order to implement the right policies, we need to learn about their effects. How do different ways of designing tax, social security and welfare systems affect labor supply and tax revenues? How can policies deal with the classical trade-off between efficiency and equity? These issues and more will be topics of plenary discussion.

SPEAKERS: Keynote speeches will be given by Gordon B. Dahl (Professor, University of California, San Diego, US), Henrik Kleven (Professor, Princeton University, US), Uta Schonberg (Professor, University College London, UK), Petra Todd (Alfred L. Cass Term Professor of Economics, University of Pennsylvania, US).

VENUE: The Universities of Tampere and Turku, the VATT Institute for Economic Research and the Labour Institute for Economic Research are co-hosting the event at the University of Tampere campus.
