Singapore Management University Accounting Symposium
Call for Papers and Participants

December 13-14, 2017

The School of Accountancy at Singapore Management University (SMU) is pleased to announce the SMU Accounting Symposium to be held on December 13-14, 2017. The Symposium will bring together the world's top scholars and experts on accounting, governance, reporting, and standard-setting, to discuss topics in these areas. The Symposium is preceded by the SMU Accounting Doctoral Consortium (December 12, 2017).

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: The Symposium's keynote speaker this year is Professor John Core. Professor Core is a Professor of Accounting at the MIT Sloan School of Management and an Editor of the Journal of Accounting and Economics. He has broad research interests in executive compensation and executive stock and option incentives, corporate governance, nonprofit governance, and disclosure and the cost of capital. His research has been published in the Accounting Review, the Journal of Accounting & Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, the Journal of Finance, and the Journal of Financial Economics.

SYMPOSIUM PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: In addition to the keynote speech, the Symposium welcomes submissions of unpublished manuscripts for presentation. Each paper presentation is followed by a discussant's critique and extensive discussions among the presenter and participants. Papers in all areas relevant to accounting are welcome for submission. A travel (including lodging) subsidy of US$1,000 will be provided to each overseas presenter. To submit your paper, please email soar@smu.edu.sg by September 15, 2017.

PARTICIPANTS FOR SYMPOSIUM: The Symposium has limited seats for participants in order to promote close interaction. Registration for the Symposium begins on September 16, 2017. The registration fee for the Symposium is SGD$400 (plus prevailing taxes), which covers the symposium materials, tea breaks, two lunches, and one banquet dinner. More detailed information about the registration process can be found on the Symposium website. Participants are responsible for arranging their transportation and accommodation. Special room rates for Symposium participants are available from selected hotels within walking distance to the SMU campus. Please check the Symposium web site for the hotel names and room rates after the Symposium is open for registration.

PARTICIPANTS FOR DOCTORAL CONSORTIUM: The Doctoral Consortium provides an opportunity for students to interact with senior scholars and junior faculty members who will share their experiences with the participants. Participation in the Doctoral Consortium is by invitation only. Participants of the Doctoral Consortium will also attend the Symposium.
