The Department of Sociology, Gender and Social Work invites applications for a Lecturer to contribute to the sociology programme at the university.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The position provides the opportunity to work within a strong and forward-looking department dedicated to excellence in sociological research and education. The appointee will contribute to teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in sociology, carry out a programme of independent research related to sociology and supervise postgraduate student research.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: It is expected that candidates will either have, or will be close to completing, a PhD. The candidate should be able to make a strong contribution into some of the following key areas of the sociology curriculum. These areas include:
- Environmental Sociology,
- Methods: Quantitative or Qualitative,
- Theory: Classical sociological theory, introductory concepts in Sociology.

While the intention of the search committee is to fill a position in Environmental Sociology, excellent candidates from any field within Sociology will be considered - particularly if they can bring strengths to the teaching of methods and/or sociological theory.

The successful candidate will need to be available to teach in semester one, 2013 and would need to take up the position no later than 31 January, 2013.
