Assistant Professors and Post-Doctoral
Fellow Positions in Political Sciences
IMT is an Institute for Advanced Studies that aims to push
the frontiers of knowledge and to contribute to the
formation of international professional elites for business
and institutions.
Research and PhD Programs focus on institutional and
technological change, the role of the organizations and
markets in economic systems, the analysis of complex
systems in social sciences, computer science and
engineering. IMT attracts bright students, young
researchers and professors through competitive transparent

IMT invites applications for Assistant Professor and Post-
doctoral Fellow Positions in Political Sciences and for its
3-year Ph.D. program in "Political Systems and
Institutional Change".
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Assistant Professors and Post-Doctoral Fellows are usually
appointed for a fixed term from one year up to three years.
All contracts may be renewed once, for up to six years.
Assistant Professors differ from Post-doctoral Fellows on
the basis of experience, scientific curriculum and
compensation. The remuneration package is competitive at
the international level and includes generous research
funds. Additional benefits may be negotiated with selected
applicants.
IMT Assistant Professors and Post-Doctoral Fellows work
closely with other young researchers, graduate students and
senior researchers, and have a limited teaching load in the
School graduate programs. The appointed persons are
expected to conduct major research projects and publish in
international journals.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
IMT seeks highly qualified candidates in all fields of
Political Science: Comparative Politics; Comparative Law;
International Relations; Administration Sciences; Public
Policy; the Political Economy of Finance, Taxation and
Public Goods; American and European Politics; Political and
Economic History. Preference will be given to candidates
coupling a strong orientation towards empirical research
with a robust theoretical and methodological background.
Preference will be given to candidates who have completed
or are near completion of their Ph.D. degree, or candidates
with experience in formal instruction at the graduate-
level.

reference letters for each candidate.
IMT will be conducting interviews at the ASSA meetings on
January 3-5, 2010 in Atlanta.

PH.D. PROGRAM IN POLITICAL SYSTEMS AND
INSTITUTIONAL CHANGE:
The Ph.D. in Political Systems and Institutional Change is
a multidisciplinary course analysing, in a comparative
perspective, institutions in their historical, political,
sociological, economic and legal features. Special
attention will be devoted to processes of institutional
change. The PhD aims at forming political analysts able to:
plan and manage collaborative and integrated processes at
the international level; analyse and assess policies and
institutional settings at a supranational, national and
regional level; confront the specific problems of countries
in transition towards democracy and a market economy.
12 Ph.D. positions available.
All students: No tuition fees + free access to IMT Canteen
+ a laptop computer assigned for all the PhD period
6 students: Full grants (annual grant amounts +/- 13.638
Euro gross)
6 students: Free accommodation
6 students out of those without scholarship: will have at
their disposal a budget of 3000 Euro to be used for
expenses closely related to research activity and off-
campus study.
