ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
Department of Management Science has been created by
merging between the Business School of the Information and
Communication University (ICU) and Business Economics
Program of KAIST. The Mission of the department is to
achieve innovation which bridges between business and
technology. One of our strength is multidisciplinary
education and research crossing the border of business and
technology.
OUR FACULTY
The Department currently has a faculty of 30 full-time
professors covering economics, finance, marketing,
organizational behavior, strategy, technology management.
OUR STUDENTS:
The Department enrolls approximately 300 students including
both graduate and undergraduates. The student body as a
whole enjoys a 2:1 student-faculty ratio.
ABOUT KAIST:
KAIST is located in the Daedeok Research Complex in the
city of Daejeon, 150 kilometers south of the capital city,
Seoul. Daedeok complex is the nation's R&D capital and home
to some 50 public and private research institutes,
universities and high-tech and venture capital companies.
For the 2009 academic year, over 8,000 students are
enrolled; 3,452 in the bachelor's, 2,197 in the master's,
and 2,357 in the doctorate programs. International students
number 389 and account for approximately 5 percent of all
students, with 124 in the bachelor's, 134 in the master's,
22 in the joint M.S.-Ph.D., and 109 in the doctoral
programs. KAIST has 842 professors and 334 staff members as
of January 2009. Scholarships are given to all students in
the bachelor's, master's and doctorate programs. Doctoral
students are exempted from Korea's compulsory military
service duty. On-campus dormitories are provided for all
students who wish to use them.
The university is gaining prominence in the world's
academic society with notable research results produced by
highly qualified faculty and research manpower. In 2009,
KAIST was chosen as 7th in Asian university by QS
(Quacquarelli Symonds) and Chosun Daily. Earlier, KAIST
was chosen as the No. 1 Asian university in science and
technology by the Hong Kong-based newsmagazine Asiaweek. In
domestic rankings compiled by the major daily JoongAng
Ilbo, it topped the list of entire Korean universities for
four consecutive years from 1998 to 2001 and again in 2008.
JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS:
The Dept. Head of Management Science is the Department's
chief academic and administrative officer. In addition to
supervising the Department's daily operations and managing
its budget, the Head has final responsibility for the
Department's recruitment and education of students, and the
oversight of faculty recruitment, research, teaching, and
compensation. The Dept. Head also oversees relations with
the University and the Department's alumni. The Department
seeks a proven leader who has the organizational and
administrative skills necessary to manage a sophisticated
academic institution, who has the interpersonal and
management skills to engage successfully with a wide range
of constituencies. The Head also must be able to identify
and inspire creative scholarship and strong research and
teaching, help the faculty refine and execute an ambitious
vision for the Department, and foster a lively academic
community. These are the additional qualifications we may
consider: interdisciplinary mind, academic excellence or
distinguishable field experience. Candidates for the
position of Dept. Head must possess a Ph.D. or a comparable
degree, as well as the other academic credentials
appropriate for the rank of Professor at KAIST.
