Assistant Professor of Marketing
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is a university with an
internationally acclaimed profile, located at the heart of
the Dutch capital. As well as a world center for business
and research, Amsterdam is a hub of cultural and media
activities. The UvA is a member of the League of European
Research Universities.
The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at the UvA
provides academic courses in accounting, finance,
management, marketing, economics, and econometrics. It also
conducts international research in these areas.
The Amsterdam Business School and the Amsterdam School of
Economics form part of the FEB.
The Amsterdam Business School's Strategy & Marketing Section
Group currently has the following vacancy: Assistant Professor
of Marketing - Full time - vacancy number 07-5049.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The assistant professor will undertake and help coordinate
research and teaching in the field of marketing, broadly
defined. The Business School has a broad profile that
includes accounting, finance, marketing, strategy,
organization, sustainable management and information
management, and has, hence, considerable opportunities for
collaborative research. The section is involved in teaching
at the undergraduate, graduate and executive levels, the
last-mentioned particularly in our MBA programme.
Candidates should be able to teach various marketing topics
at all three levels. There are no requirements concerning
the particular research area, since the main criterion is
output in leading international marketing and/or management
journals. Researchers in the section currently publish on
topics in marketing (consumer behaviour, innovation, new
product development) and strategy (international business,
sustainability/corporate social responsibility, cultural
entrepreneurship). Candidates may link up with ongoing
research or help develop a new stream of marketing
research. The Strategy & Marketing section is chaired by
Prof. Ans Kolk.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A PhD in Marketing, the proven ability to initiate and
implement research of international standards, the ability
to stimulate and encourage the research of others,
demonstrated teaching excellence and the ability to teach
in English. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to give an
academic seminar.

APPOINTMENT:
The salary is negotiable, but will be based on the salary
scale for assistant professors at Dutch universities and be
in accordance with the collective agreement regulating
employment conditions at Dutch universities. The date on
which the appointment is to begin will be determined by
mutual agreement; however, we would like it to begin by the
middle of 2008.
Assistant professor appointments are tenure-track
positions: the initial appointment will be for four years,
and will become tenured upon good research and teaching
performance.
The gross salary will be between 3,060 (min. scale 11) and
4,761 (max. scale 12) per month. Favourable tax agreements
may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The UvA offers a very
attractive pension scheme.
