     The University of Kentucky invites applications and
     nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Law.


     ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY:

     The University of Kentucky is the state's largest research
     institution and a land grant university. Institutional
     strategic goals call for the University of Kentucky to rank
     in the top twenty publicly funded research universities
     by the year 2020. A dynamic business plan for the
     University has strong legislative and community support.
     The University president, administration and faculty are
     committed to academic, research and public service programs
     that produce economic, social and cultural improvements for
     the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The University's main campus
     and medical campus are located in Lexington, Kentucky.


     ABOUT THE COLLEGE OF LAW:

     The College of Law is one of several major professional
     schools located on the University's Lexington campus. It is
     an integral and important part of the University community.
     Its thirty faculty members are excellent classroom teachers
     and productive scholars, including both nationally and
     internationally recognized experts. The faculty's
     scholarship interests are wide-ranging and innovative.
     Faculty members maintain a strong research program and have
     made significant contributions to national and local policy
     debates. The school's library is the largest in the state
     and has an outstanding staff. The college offers a diverse
     traditional curriculum, including clinical practice
     opportunities and externships. The college's IT personnel
     provide a wide variety of services and the school's
     classrooms offer excellent opportunities for improving
     teaching through integrating technology. Its 400 students
     come from many diverse backgrounds. They represent some
     twenty-seven states and five foreign countries. The
     college maintains a strong relationship with its alumni.
     The college has a demonstrated commitment to improving
     legal practice in the state and nationally through teaching
     and research, to public service, and to recruiting and
     retaining a diverse faculty and student body.


     JOB DESCRIPTION:

     The dean is the chief academic and administrative officer
     of the college. The dean's leadership and vision should
     help the college maintain and improve its entire program,
     including completion of an energetic and established
     capital campaign to move the school into new facilities.
     The dean should sustain an environment that fosters
     scholarly endeavor and educational excellence through good
     academic administration. She or he must have strong
     organizational and administrative skills and the ability to
     shoulder responsibilities for financial management,
     development activities, and personnel management. Along
     with the faculty, the dean is responsible for developing an
     educational program tailored to meet the needs of a diverse
     student body and for the promotion of a varied and vigorous
     faculty research program. The dean participates in the
     University's governance through the Provost's Dean's
     Council and must be able to work with the University
     administration and other campus communities.


     JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

     The dean must hold a J.D. or the equivalent. He or she must
     have an academic record that would permit tenure at the
     full professor level. His or her experience will show an
     excellent scholarly record, academic leadership and a
     strong interest in public service. The ideal candidate will
     have good interpersonal and communication skills along with
     the ability to be successful in a major fund-raising
     campaign. This individual will show herself or himself able
     to foster a strong sense of community through inclusiveness
     and transparency, will value diversity and equal
     opportunity, will provide leadership and vision, and will
     have demonstrated the capacity for managing a variety of
     relationships across the campus.
