Elon University School of Law in Greensboro, North Carolina, seeks an outstanding leader with a deep knowledge of and commitment to legal education for the position of Dean of the School of Law.
ABOUT THE LAW SCHOOL: Established in 2006 and fully accredited by the ABA in 2011, Elon Law School supports a full-time faculty of 38 and enrolls 330 students. True to the history and achievement of Elon University, the School has exceeded expectations in its short life span and has already gained recognition for its innovative approach to legal education. The National Jurist recognized Elon Law as one of the top 20 most innovative law schools in 2012, and the ABA awarded the 2013 E. Smythe Gambrell Professionalism Award to the School for its Law and Leadership Program.
Elon University School of Law prepares students to be exceptional lawyers through a rigorous core curriculum, including a leadership program that equips students to address regional, national, and global challenges in an environment that emphasizes innovative teaching and an array of field-based experiences. Students engage the law through clinics, moot court, trial advocacy, and field-placement programs, as well as a preceptor program through which more than 50 attorneys serve as mentors to law students from the start of their law school experience.
The law school's advisory board is chaired by a former adviser to four U.S. presidents and includes a former North Carolina governor as well as three former Chief Justices of the North Carolina Supreme Court. The law school's new, high-tech facilities in downtown Greensboro include the North Carolina Business Court, making Elon Law one of the few law schools in the country to house a working court. The School of Law is one of six schools in Elon University, a selective, independent liberal arts university of approximately 6,000 students that is renowned as a national model for engaged learning and one of only seven private universities in the nation with accredited schools of law, business, communications, and education, along with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will, at a minimum, possess a J.D. degree and have an outstanding record of accomplishment in the legal academy and/or the practice of law which warrants appointment as a Professor of Law. He or she will be a successful teacher, will excel at scholarship, will be a proven leader, and will have demonstrated a commitment to service to the legal profession and the public.
