Southern Methodist University seeks nominations
and applications for the position of Judge James
Noel Dean of the Dedman School of Law for a term beginning July 1, 2014.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF LAW: The Dedman School of Law
at SMU is a leading national and international
law school. With an endowment valued at
approximately $60 million, it is one of the very
few law schools to have an endowed deanship. The
School’s faculty is a talented and diverse group
of accomplished scholars and dedicated teachers
which helps to attract exceptional students from
around the world. Over the past 15 years, the
median GPA for entering students has steadily
climbed, as have the average LSAT scores for
incoming students. The School offers a rich
curriculum of over 165 upper class courses, over
half of which have fewer than 25 students. To
best prepare students for the changing legal
landscape, the Dedman School offers extensive
clinical programs, externship opportunities, and
a wide variety of international programs.
The Dedman School of Law seeks a new dean who
will build on the School’s strong foundation and
reputation for scholarship and excellence in
legal education. Reporting directly to SMU’s
Provost, the new dean will be an innovative
leader who has the background and motivation
needed to advance the School’s mission of
providing a superior legal education.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a J.D.
or equivalent degree and a proven commitment to
legal education, scholarship, community, and
public service as well as the imagination and
executive skills needed to lead a contemporary
law school. The successful candidate must be
committed to the university’s goal of
inclusiveness and able to work effectively with
persons of all races, genders, ethnicities,
nationalities, sexual orientations, religions, and backgrounds.
