ABOUT THE SCHOOL OF LAW: Tilburg University is a modern and specialized university. With a broad variety of international programs and innovating research, the School of Law stands for high quality. With its open and inspiring atmosphere, this Faculty is a congenial working environment.
ABOUT TILEC: The Tilburg Law and Economics Center is a joint venture of the Schools of Law and of Economics at Tilburg University, fostering interdisciplinary research on issues relating to governance of economic activity. TILEC's mission consists in bringing together economists and legal scholars at Tilburg University to perform academically path-breaking academic research relevant for society. TILEC provides support for, and stimulates, the research activities of its members, thereby enhancing the intellectual climate. TILEC aims to be recognized as a leading center worldwide, both in academic and policy circles.
TILEC was born out of the recognition that the traditional ways of organizing academic research - along faculty lines - are no longer adequate today. Researchers in law strive to draw upon economics and yearn to work with economists, and vice versa. Furthermore, the outside world - market actors, authorities, practitioners - has come to expect researchers from law and from economics to work together, putting a premium on research that rests on both disciplines. Given its excellent Schools of Economics and Law, Tilburg University was in an ideal position to meet the expectations of researchers and the outside world alike and for the past 10 years TILEC has been the vehicle for doing so.
Today, the activities of TILEC include:
- cutting-edge research in the area of governance of economic activity that is at the same time academically groundbreaking and practically relevant.
- an intensive events calendar (academic seminars, workshops and conferences) aiming to stimulate discussion, and to increase the speed of knowledge creation and dissemination.
- an active visitors program.
- contributions to bachelors and masters programmes in law and in economics links and exchanges with other high-quality centers active in the same areas.
