Samford University has announced a national search for the dean of Cumberland School of Law.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DEAN: The dean is the chief administrative officer of the law school, a member of the faculty and a member of the university administration. In addition to providing academic leadership to the faculty and students, the dean represents Cumberland School of Law to the academic, legal and civic communities locally, regionally and nationally. The dean is responsible for supporting and fostering the schools relationships with alumni and friends, as well as positioning Cumberland School of Law to be an innovator in legal education in the years to come. Specifically, the dean builds on and further develops the law schools success in trial advocacy and skills training as well as its other initiatives, such as its popular J.D./M.B.A. program. The 2013 edition of U.S. News & World Report ranks Cumberland School of Law 4th among all U.S. law schools in trial advocacy education.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Cumberland School of Laws new dean should be energetic and creative, possessing outstanding abilities in leadership, vision, judgment and communication. Additionally, the dean should have an exceptional record of professional achievement, must hold a J.D. or its equivalent from an accredited law school, and possess an academic record commensurate with a tenured faculty position.
