New Zealand Leadership Institute (NLZI), Faculty of Business and Economics
Research Fellow (Post-Doctoral) Vacancy Number: 15366
The candidate will be located within the New Zealand Leadership Institute (NLZI) which is based within the University of Auckland Business School.
Since its inception in 2004, NZLI's purpose has always centred on a desire to grow our understanding of leadership and to use this understanding to build leadership capacity within New Zealand and beyond. As researchers, we are seeking to develop cutting-edge leadership thinking that breaks the mold and unleashes new insights. Much of our research seeks to revisit ideas that have become established truths and take another angle on them.
Our research agenda is not fixed. It is continually being informed and shaped by our investigations, programmes and relationships. At present our work is broadly encompassed by the three areas of inquiry, which are: Leadership in Contexts; Leadership Development; and Leadership and Governance.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The role is open to applicants who have successfully completed their PhD. Preference will be given to candidates who have undertaken research either in the fields of corporate governance or leadership. Experience in documentary research and case writing or teaching will be considered an important asset.
This is a Fixed Term position for two years.
JOB DESCRIPTION: The successful candidate will carry out research in collaboration with a team of researchers at the University of Auckland Business School who are investigating organisational failure through a combination of 'poor leadership' and 'bad governance' at the board level. This inter-disciplinary project endeavours to cross-fertilize corporate governance and leadership research perspectives to better understand the decision-making and communication processes pursued by directors over a period of time.
The key task will be to undertake extensive documentary research that encompasses legal, company, industry, media and academic reports in order to generate teaching cases as well as research cases and to yield academic articles in corporate governance and leadership journals.
The post-doctoral fellow will devote two-thirds of her or his time to this research project and one-third to actively publishing from recently completed PhD thesis work.
Academic guidance will be given to support this and to ensure that the research fellow has the opportunity to build and develop her or his knowledge and competency in whichever field of studies (i.e. leadership or corporate governance) that need to be addressed in order to fully contribute to this research project.
