                     in Public International Law

       Entry-level Tenure-track Professorship Position in Law


     Applications are currently invited for The Hans and Tamar
     Oppenheimer Chair in Public International Law, as well as
     for an entry-level tenure-track professorship position at
     the Faculty of Law, McGill University.


     ABOUT THE FACULTY OF LAW:

     The Faculty of Law at McGill University was established in
     1848. Through its research programs and pedagogical
     initiatives, it reflects a central commitment to the study
     of legal traditions, comparative law and the
     internationalization of law. In conjunction with this
     overarching mission for the study of law at McGill
     University, four areas of academic priority have been
     identified by the Faculty: Transsystemic Legal Education;
     Trade, Mobility and Enterprise; Public Policy and Private
     Resources; and Human Rights and Legal Pluralism.


     OPPENHEIMER CHAIR IN PUBLIC INTERNATIONAL LAW:

     The purpose of the Chair is to reinforce a Canadian locus
     for the study and research of international law, with
     particular attention to the relationship between
     international legal obligations and domestic law. Through
     his or her engagement in teaching and research in public
     international law, the chairholder will advance the
     understanding of theoretical and practical dimensions of
     the implementation of international treaty, customary and
     other obligations in domestic law with due regard to the
     constitutional setting in federal and unitary states. The
     chairholder will teach undergraduate students and graduate
     students at the master and doctoral levels in the Faculty
     of Law and will be invited to take a leadership role in
     research in these fields. In addition to a proven record as
     a teacher and a scholar, the successful candidate would
     ideally have experience interacting with international
     organizations and national governments. The position is
     tenured and the Chair is fully endowed.


     ENTRY-LEVEL TENURE-TRACK PROFESSORSHIP POSITION IN LAW:

     Subject to budgetary approval by University authorities,
     the Faculty of Law is offering one entry level, tenure-
     track professorship in Law and invites applications from
     candidates with a strong commitment to innovation and
     excellence in teaching and research, and who will make a
     creative contribution to the governance of the Faculty and
     the University. This appointment is expected to commence
     July 1, 2008 or soon thereafter.

     Candidates must envisage teaching and research in several
     substantive fields of law and we encourage diverse
     approaches to law, legal research and legal education.
     Candidates with demonstrated expertise in criminal law are
     particularly encouraged to apply.


     JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

     Candidates must envisage teaching and research in several
     substantive fields of law and we encourage diverse
     approaches to law, legal research and legal education.
     Given the bilingual environment of our Faculty, successful
     candidates will be expected to evaluate written and oral
     work presented in both English and French.
