Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio, seeks applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the Claude W. Pettit College of Law. Founded in 1885, the College of Law is preparing students for 21st Century practice. The college provides the ultimate small law school experience through personal attention and direct involvement with faculty. Readily accessible faculty, consistently strong bar passage and employment statistics, and a curriculum that blends theory with practice all define the College of Law. Ohio Northern University seeks a dean who will continue to build on its strengths. The new dean will begin his or her responsibilities on July 1, 2013.
ABOUT THE COLLEGE: As recognized by National Jurist, the College of Law has one of the most innovative curriculums in the nation, including an extensive emphasis on practical skills. The 27 full- and part time faculty and staff in the College of Law are committed to the college's core value of student-centered education for competent and professional law practice (small classes, quality teaching and innovative curricular offerings). The members of the faculty hold law degrees from a wide range of schools including Georgetown, Harvard, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia, University of Texas, Emory and Columbia, among others. Many also hold LL.M. or Ph.D. degrees and/or have significant law practice experience. The LLM in Democratic Governance and Rule of Law provides young lawyers with the training and tools to implement law reforms that support stable democratic institutions and the rule of law in a free-market economy. The current student body is comprised of 290 students from 69 undergraduate institutions. More than two-thirds of the students are from out of state.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The dean of the College of Law will be expected have a J.D. degree, demonstrated administrative ability, and an ability to effectively work with the various constituencies of the College of Law and the University community. In addition, applicants should be accomplished leaders with a passion for legal education that commands respect on the State and National level. A strategic vision for enhancing the college's national academic profile and a dedication to excellent scholarship, teaching and research are equally important. Although applications will be accepted until the time that a new dean is selected, candidates should submit their materials by January 21, 2013 for the most favorable consideration.
