University of Passau (Germany), Faculty of Law
Tenured Professor (W3) of Common Law

The Faculty of Law at the University of Passau is constantly rated one of the best in Germany with a traditionally strong focus on international and comparative law. The Faculty also participates in the University's newly established strategic framework "The Network Society." This interdisciplinary approach demonstrates a commitment to fostering innovation and the transfer of knowledge by exploring the use and effects of technology in law, politics, economics, society and culture. Passau is located in a beautiful region close to the international centers of Munich, Vienna and Prague. The campus university with some 10,000 students is but a short walk from the historic Old City and provides a thriving academic environment: an ideal place to live, teach and conduct research. In order to further enhance its international focus in research and teaching, the Faculty of Law invites applications for the position of a Tenured Professor (W3) of Common Law, commencing Autumn 2012.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The Faculty expects candidates to have an excellent research record with publications in recognized law journals. A focus on commercial law, in particular international and/or United States commercial law, is desired. Candidates should combine a strong theoretical background with a didactic focus and, ideally, practical experience. Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation is desirable. Teaching will include undergraduate and postgraduate courses to be held in English. Requirements include a university degree, teaching competence and academic excellence demonstrated by a high-quality Ph.D. and subsequent publications. A working knowledge of the German language is desirable.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Faculty offers a dynamic and stimulating academic environment. Apart from its commitment to international law, there is a highly productive mix of expertise in areas of law ranging from legal theory and history to e-law, which has enabled the Faculty to offer innovative courses that attract strong demand and to reach top ranking results.

The successful applicant will be appointed as Professor in Law and hold a Chair ("Lehrstuhl") with corresponding staff (secretary and research assistants). The remuneration for the position will be according to the salary class ("Besoldungsgruppe") of W3, which is the highest salary class available to university professors in Germany. The position can also be held on a part-time basis.
