Dean of Law
Janet Wright and Associates Inc. is assisting the
University of Windsor in its search for its next Dean of
Law. Windsor Law is well known for quality and innovation
in teaching, research, and social justice. Two key themes
of the school are Access to Justice, a theme that has been
synonymous with the school for over 30 years, and
Transnational Law, a theme that takes advantage of
Windsor's unique geographic location on an international
border and the increasingly global nature of law and legal
practice.
With over 600 students, 32 faculty members, and 5,500
alumni and alumnae, Windsor Law provides students with an
innovative legal education in a supportive community
environment. A comprehensive curriculum combined with
experiential learning is at the heart of Windsor Law.
JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS:
Students participate in a variety of clinical and outreach
programs, including two legal aid clinics, a mediation
clinic, the Intellectual Property Legal Information Network
and the Law Enforcement Accountability Project. In addition
to the Canadian J.D., Windsor Law offers a Canadian and
American dual-degree program with the University of Detroit
Mercy, allowing students to obtain the degrees necessary
for practice on both sides of the border in three years.
Students may also choose combined J.D./M.S.W. and
J.D./M.B.A. degrees with Windsor's School of Social Work
and Odette School of Business. As well, the Faculty is
establishing a research-based LL.M. graduate program. For

Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, the
Dean is the chief executive officer of the Faculty of Law,
responsible for the overall management of the Faculty. The
Dean is expected to provide strategic and effective
leadership within the Faculty, the University and the
profession, contributing to the further development of the
Faculty and its programs in research, teaching, and
service.
Candidate requirements include an open and collaborative
style of leadership, proven administrative abilities, a
record of effective engagement with external
constituencies, enthusiasm for innovation, a strong
commitment to accessibility, equity, and diversity, as well
as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The
successful candidate will have a strong academic reputation
with a record of excellence in law teaching and
scholarship, coupled with the ability to support and
motivate high-quality research and teaching. The new Dean
will possess graduate qualifications or the equivalent in
Law, and be eligible for appointment at the rank of
Professor.
