LOYOLA LAW SCHOOL

                                 Dean

Loyola Law School, Los Angeles (ABA and AALS, 1937),
invites applications and nominations for Dean of the Law
School. The Law School is well-positioned due to the
successful efforts and management skills of its most recent
Deans: it has been able to attract and retain outstanding,
remarkably productive, teacher/scholars, to create new
centers, clinics and programs and to pursue diligently its
commitment to service. The Law School campus, designed by
internationally acclaimed architect Frank Gehry, is fully
built, thus resources have been invested in the Law
School's human capital and in furtherance of its mission of
academic excellence, outstanding teaching and commitment to
      social justice.

      ABOUT THE SCHOOL:

The institutional and academic life of the Law School is
rich, vibrant and diverse. Between 2001 and 2007, Loyola's
full-time faculty published about 400 works, including more
than 80 books and over 300 law review articles. It recently
has added a Tax LL.M. program (ranked as one of the top ten
in the country), an LL.M program in American Law and
International Legal Practice at the University of Bologna,
the Center for Interdisciplinary and Comparative
Jurisprudence, a Civil Justice Program and a Sports Law
Institute. The Disability Rights Legal Center, Center for
Juvenile Law and Justice, and Center for Ethical Advocacy
reflect the Law School's deep commitment to social justice,
as does the mandatory pro bono service requirement.

The faculty consists of 53 tenured and tenure track
professors, 33 percent of whom are women and 11 are people of
color. The Law School also has 19 full-time, non-tenure
track clinical faculty. The Law School has a highly
qualified, diverse student body of approximately 1,200 day
and evening students, approximately 40 percent of whom are
people of color. Women constitute approximately half of the
student body. Student participation in advocacy programs
has been extremely successful. In recent years Loyola's
trial advocacy program has ranked among the best in the
country. Loyola's Byrne Trial Advocacy team has won 13 of
the last 16 regional tournaments and six national
championships in the past six years. Additionally, Loyola
Law School has received national recognition for the
      quality of its classroom experience.

      JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Law School looks forward to a new Dean to continue the
positive momentum at the Law School. Although the school's
endowment has doubled over the last eight years, the new
Dean will continue to seek external funding to enable the
Law School to actualize its mission. Additionally, the Dean
will be expected to continue to cultivate a rich academic
life and to enhance the Law School's reputation for
      excellent scholarship, teaching, collegiality, and
      diversity.

The Law School has its own separate campus, located near
downtown Los Angeles. It is part of Loyola Marymount
University, a Jesuit institution. The Dean reports to the
University Provost. The preferred start date is July 1,
2009. Salary is commensurate with experience.
