Director of Legal Writing
Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State
University, seeks dynamic, creative candidates for the
position of Director of Legal Writing. The Director of
Legal Writing is a full-time position, reporting directly
to the Dean, and the successful applicant is eligible for
an initial 5-year appointment of annually renewable 11-
month contracts. The Director of Legal Writing and the
Legal Writing Professors at Cleveland-Marshall are active
in faculty governance, including committee service, and are
voting members of the law faculty for all issues not
concerning tenure, promotion, or the hiring of tenure-track
faculty.
JOB DESCRIPTION/QUALIFICATIONS:
Cleveland-Marshall seeks a candidate who will carry out the
duties of the Director mindful of the talents and needs of
the other Program faculty and who will work with his or her
Legal Writing colleagues using strong communication,
facilitation, and leadership skills. The Director will be
responsible for the development, coordination, and
implementation of the long-term and overall vision of legal
writing and research education at Cleveland-Marshall. The
Director has primary responsibility for the first-year
Legal Writing Program, as well as additional upper-level
legal writing courses currently offered or that may be
added. The Director will teach one section of first-year
Legal Writing (15-20 students) and will be responsible for
leading the Legal Writing faculty in making decisions
regarding the direction and continuous improvement of the
program. Cleveland-Marshall seeks candidates with a Juris
Doctor from an ABA accredited law school, a minimum of
three years experience teaching Legal Writing, and a
serious commitment to students. Successful experience in
leading colleagues in an academic setting is strongly
preferred. Salary will be competitive and based on the
successful applicant's experience and qualifications.

Cleveland combines big-city cultural amenities with a
comfortable, easily manageable lifestyle. Cleveland-
Marshall is located in downtown Cleveland, just one block
from Playhouse Square, the largest theater district outside
of New York City. We are located within 15 minutes of
University Circle, home of the world-renowned Cleveland
Orchestra, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland
Museum of Natural History, the Cleveland Institute of
Music, the Cleveland Music School Settlement, the Cleveland

Consistent with the applicable policies, the Director of
Legal Writing and the Legal Writing faculty at Cleveland-
Marshall can vote at faculty meetings on all issues not
concerning tenure, promotion, or the hiring of tenure-track
faculty.
The anticipated salary range for this position is $90,000
or above.
The Director of Legal Writing will teach one section of
first-year Legal Writing to 15 to 20 students.
