     Founded in 1911, The University of Hong Kong, an English-

     academic scholarship for many years. Of a number of recent
     indicators of the University's performance, one is its

     and research disciplines, with 20,000 undergraduate and
     postgraduate students from 50 countries, and a complement

     Applications are invited for appointment as Professor: Sir
     Y K Pao Chair in Public Law in the Department of Law,
     tenable from July 1, 2008 or as soon as possible
     thereafter. The appointment will initially be made on a
     two- to three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility
     of renewal.


     JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

     Candidates should have distinguished track records of
     research and publications in the fields of public law, and
     preferably experience in human rights issues that are of
     particular importance to the Asia Pacific region. The Chair
     is expected to play a leadership role in the research and
     development of the pubic law and international law
     programmes and/or the LL.M. in Human Rights programme.
     Experience in administering human rights and international
     law postgraduate programmes and fundraising will be an
     advantage.

     Scholarship in public law and international law in the
     Faculty of Law has extended across a wide range of fields,
     and its LL.M. in Human Rights programme is a unique one
     with a focus on Asian issues. Application should be
     written against the above selection criteria.

     Annual salary for Chair will be within the professorial
     range, the minimum of which is circa HK$1.2M (approximately
     US$1 = HK$7.8) (subject to review from time to time at the
     entire discretion of the University). The appointment will
     attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution
     to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15 percent
     of basic salary, as well as leave, medical/dental benefits.
     Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. At current
     rates, salaries tax does not exceed 16 percent of gross
     income.
