SYMPOSIUM
"LOCAL TO GLOBAL: RETHINKING SPHERES OF AUTHORITY AFTER A
WORLD FINANCIAL CRISIS"
Friday and Saturday
October 16-17, 2009
University of the Pacific
McGeorge School of Law
Northwest Hall, room S4-S5
3200 Fifth Avenue
Sacramento, CA 95817
ABOUT THE SYMPOSIUM:
Who should regulate and carry out economic policies in a
world of complex government structures and jurisdictions?
This symposium will focus less on what substantive
regulations or other economic policies are needed, and
instead will concentrate who the key actors and resources
must be.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE:
Some of the questions that the conference will explore
include:
Should there be a supranational regulator of financial
markets and institutions?
Are sub-national units of government (example, the state
courts of Delaware) the appropriate regulators for
institutions with significant worldwide economic impact?
Does the lack of a strong central government in the
European Union prevent the European Union from taking a
sufficiently robust response to the crisis.
Who regulates units of government when they act as
participants in financial markets?
ABOUT THE SPONSOR:
The Pacific McGeorge Global Center for Business &
Development pursues educational, scholarly and practical
initiatives addressing the interface between the global
economy and the legal profession. The Center is dedicated
on the proposition that attorneys must be educated to think
globally if they are to be effective advisers and advocates
of governments, business enterprises, nongovernmental
organizations and individual clients.
